Engineering Manager

Player-Coach Leadership

About Us

We're a fast-moving, VC-backed startup building an AI-powered product for enterprise teams. We work at the intersection of data, automation, and user-facing workflows, helping customers make faster, higher-confidence decisions.

Our founding team brings rare depth across both scale and startup execution:

  • Our CEO previously led multiple large-scale analytics services (hundreds of millions in ARR), owning P&L, product, and GTM, and helped scale a major product from early stage through IPO. Her background spans enterprise software, go-to-market strategy, and AI/ML-driven data platforms.
  • Our CTO is a multi-time founder with successful acquisitions and deep technical leadership experience building developer products and business software used by millions of customers.

Why This Role is Special

This is a rare early-stage leadership role. You will help build the first generation of engineering management at the company.

This is a player-coach role. You'll lead a team, shape execution, and stay close enough to the technical work to ensure high velocity and high standards.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and grow a small, high-performing engineering team
  • Drive execution: planning, ownership, delivery quality, accountability
  • Partner closely with founders and product leadership on roadmap and priorities
  • Improve technical standards, architecture direction, and engineering process
  • Own hiring and onboarding as the team scales
  • Establish an engineering culture of speed + quality + clear decision-making

What We're Looking For

  • 2+ years of experience managing engineers (or leading a team as a tech lead)
  • 6+ years of engineering experience overall
  • Strong technical judgment + product intuition
  • Track record of shipping customer-facing product
  • Ability to create clarity in ambiguity and drive momentum
  • Strong communication and cross-functional leadership

Bonus Points (not required)

  • Experience scaling teams
  • Experience building AI-enabled products (LLMs, workflows, evaluation)
  • Strong platform maturity mindset (reliability, observability, security)

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary + meaningful equity
  • Massive ownership. Your work shapes the product and the org.
  • Hybrid flexibility; collaboration hub in San Mateo
